LUMIN announced on November 8 the X2, their flagship network music player featuring a fully discrete DAC design representing years of in-house research and development. This new product represents the pinnacle of the company’s streaming technology, incorporating a fully custom-designed D/A converter independent of off-the-shelf chipsets.

Fully Custom Discrete DAC

The X2’s defining feature is its fully custom discrete DAC, built component by component without using off-the-shelf DAC chipsets. According to LUMIN, circuit layout, power management, and system clocking are all optimized around this new architecture, achieving maximum coherence and ultra-low noise.

Managed by dual ultra-high-speed FPGAs in a dual mono, fully discrete configuration, all calculations and filters within the DAC are specifically tuned for this model. The result delivers exceptional precision and more natural musical timing in network audio playback.

Advanced Processing System and Upsampling

The X2 features the latest processing system supporting native playback of DSD512 and PCM 32bit/768kHz. Additionally, it includes upsampling capability to convert PCM and DSD signals to DSD256, providing flexibility for system tuning and sonic preferences.

Power Supply and Clock Design

Power supply and clock design have been completely redesigned. Analog circuits employ newly developed dual-stage linear power supplies with dual toroidal transformers ensuring channel separation and minimizing electrical interference.

A femtosecond-precision clock system is distributed via FPGA, minimizing jitter and timing errors throughout the conversion path.

Comprehensive Connectivity

Connectivity is future-proofed with robust specifications. The X2 supports both copper and fiber optic network connections, equipped with an industry-standard SFP socket providing galvanic isolation. An integrated network switch allows connection of additional devices such as NAS drives.

It also features USB digital output supporting native DSD512, and LUMIN’s Leedh Processing lossless digital volume control enables direct connection to power amplifiers without sacrificing resolution.

Pricing and Availability

The LUMIN X2 is priced at AUD 28,000. It is currently available through authorized LUMIN dealers, with pricing for other regions to be announced soon.

Succeeding the highly acclaimed X1 while focusing on proprietary conversion technology and total system synergy, the X2 represents a new chapter in LUMIN’s evolution. It’s a redefinition of modern high-end streamers, balancing engineering precision with musical warmth.
