UK’s Rega has officially announced the long-awaited separate reference amplifiers “Mercury” preamplifier and “Solis” power amplifier. Both models have entered full production and shipping to UK retailers has begun. Mercury priced at £6,950, Solis at £6,950, pair price £13,900.

Completing Rega Reference System

These two models sit at the pinnacle of UK manufacturer Rega’s solid-state lineup, completing what the company calls its “latest reference system.” Combined with the already announced Aura phono stage, Isis CD player, and Naia turntable, this realizes the first complete reference chain built entirely from in-house electronics, source components, and amplification for Rega fans.

Mercury Preamplifier: Uncompromising Low-Noise Design

Rega Mercury Preamplifier

Mercury was designed with a single goal: to create an uncompromising preamplifier that balances extremely low noise floor with the dynamic expression required at this level. The actual design emphasizes retaining fine details rather than masking them. This is a characteristic Rega has quietly refined over 40 years of electronics development.

High-End Preamplifier with Modern Features

Mercury adds modern features including high-performance DAC, discrete headphone stage, and full-color IPS display. This should appeal not only to traditional hi-fi listeners but also to those wanting to build more versatile front-ends.

Solis Power Amplifier: Powerful Partner Developed Over 4 Years

Rega Solis Power Amplifier

Companion power amplifier “Solis” to Mercury is positioned as the muscle portion of the new reference duo. Hand-built in England and designed to drive demanding loudspeakers, Solis represents 4 years of development as Rega’s engineering team refined circuits and reduced noise.

Practical Benefits of Separate Configuration

The company notes that splitting preamplifier and power amplifier circuits into two chassis isn’t just consideration for audiophiles. It’s a practical method to isolate low-voltage, noise-sensitive stages from the high-current side of the system. The result, according to Rega, achieves cleaner signal path and more accurate, engaging performance.

Solis is compatible with the brand’s Aethos stereo power amplifier for those expanding existing systems.

Display at Various Audio Shows and Production Started

Rega showcased early prototypes at Bristol Show and UK dealer events, demonstrating production versions at recent Edinburgh HI-AV Show. However, today marks the first occasion both models are confirmed as officially production-ready. Retailers are expected to begin receiving inventory next week.
