Danish high-end audio brand Aavik announced the new phono stage series “R-X88” (comprising three models: R-188, R-288, and R-588) on December 5, 2025. While inheriting the design philosophy of the flagship model R-880, the series aims to deliver reference-level analog playback to a broader range of audiophiles.

Product Concept

Aavik’s Chief Designer Michael Børresen commented, “The R-880 flagship redefined what’s possible in phono playback. With the R-X88 series, we’re bringing that same level of musicality and design to more listeners.”

All R-X88 models achieve an authentic, noise-free signal path to preserve every nuance of the original recording. Hand-assembled in Aalborg, Denmark, they ensure uncompromising quality through in-house expertise and carefully selected partners.

Key Technical Features

Noise Elimination Technology

The R-X88 series integrates Ansuz Active Tesla Coils, Square Tesla Coils, and analog dither circuits, achieving exceptional signal purity and electromagnetic interference reduction. The number of noise elimination elements varies by model, with higher-tier models featuring more components.

MC and Optical Cartridge Compatibility

Compatible with both MC cartridges and DS Audio optical cartridges. Precise gain and impedance adjustments enable optimal matching with a wide range of cartridges.

Resonant Mode Power Supply

Features sine-wave DC/DC converters, maximizing sonic performance with ultra-low noise and minimal distortion. Combined with linear power supply design that eliminates high-frequency interference, it delivers exceptionally clean current supply.

Discrete Low-Noise RIAA Section

Achieves a high S/N ratio of 94dB at 1kHz through parallel-configured ultra-low-noise bipolar transistors.

Topological Balanced MC Input

The floating design eliminates ground noise issues, extracting maximum detail from MC cartridge micro-signals.

Hybrid Cabinet Construction

The visually striking cabinet combining wood, copper, and steel is engineered for resonance control and stability.
